George Qiao is a historian of China and fine art photographer. After surviving the Asiana plane crash in SFO in 2013, camera has become his therapy for trauma. He now roams around and captures  images to explore the meaning and the poetics of post-traumatic experiences: the sense of limbo between life and death, the mental scar, the struggle for internal peace, the efforts to reconnect with people, and the rediscovery of the self. So true that he finds catharsis in art-making. 

Born and raised in Shengze, an industrial town in eastern China, George Qiao attended Fudan University in Shanghai and Stanford University in the U.S.. He now lives in New England. He works in various genres in photography, but considers photography as foremost a poetic means of personal expression. History, visual arts, and tea culture have been his life passions.
